Jihad: The Men and Ideas Behind Al Qaeda

Welcome to my website!

I am a teacher and writer based in London. I am currently a Visiting Lecturer in the English Department at Royal Holloway College, University of London, teaching courses on Introduction to Creative Writing, The Short Story and Children’s Literature. From January 2014 I will also be teaching a module on “Writing Photography” as part of the MA in Photojournalism at the University of Westminster. I am also completing a doctorate on “Cognitive Dimensions of Literary Narrative”. I have published four novels and two non-fiction books on literary/historical subjects.

I have taught Creative Writing in a wide variety of contexts, from prisons to universities. Organizations I have taught for include the Arts Council and the Arvon Foundation. I also run private creative writing classes.

I have also worked as a Producer/Director/Writer for television and radio, making history, arts and current affairs documentaries for the BBC and other broadcasters. Among my credits are the Emmy-nominated Jihad: The Men and Ideas Behind Al Qaeda, on which I was Co-Producer/Writer.
